The Hot Selection 30 11 10

Back with another Hot Selection... back to warm you UP.

As always, broadcast LIVE, from the heart of London,  we started this week's show with a classic space jazz piece from 1978 [which also happens to be a sample source for (amongst other hip hop tracks) Kanye West's 'Lord, Lord Lord' and, earlier, NAS - 'Find Ya Wealth'].

Early on in hour one of the show we locked down into hip-hop tempo musics but then the BPM's raise in the last few tracks, and as we got into hour two of the show we found ourselves playing some classic Jazzanova; one of our favourite ever Roy Ayers tracks; some boogie, soul and jazz...

The Hot Selection 23 11 10

Back with another Hot Selection... a varied show, full of soulful music, from the heart of a cold, wintry London town.

As always we were under pressure to fit in a lot of amazing music;  it turned out that in the first hour we stayed largely on the slower-tempos (hip-hop, 80s synth boogiedown, and we also brought you James Blake's forthcoming - and breathtakingly brilliant - new single).

This week's show also included 3 tracks in salute to the great Harry Whitaker, who sadly died a few days before. We brought you something from his work with Roy Ayres, and two other pieces in the second hour that are amongst our favourites from a man who was a legendary arranger and keyboard player.

Hour two featured an extended 'dancefloor' selection (with a darker edge than we've given you for a few weeks), as kicked off by a Gaslamp Killer track; but in contrast, the hour was bookened by warmer, more organic, sublime music, including the two aforementioned tributes to Harry Whitaker (RIP).

Enjoy!

The Hot Selection 09 11 10

Back with another Hot Selection... and this show really did deliver some absoloute treasures.

We started off with some downbeat, headnod, mellow joints including a surprise from Queen (albeit far from the 'standard' Queen fare!), sliding into some more contemporary, higher tempo music towards the end of the first half.

In the second hour we deliver hip-house and other 90s house tunes that hit hard but they are deep before transitioning into hip hop including some golden era DJ Mitzu, one of our favourite Outkast tunes and a deliriously-beautiful, rare, soul track. Rimshots, bass swirls and tripped-out vocals a truly outsanding piece of music.
