The Hot Selection 23 11 10

Back with another Hot Selection... a varied show, full of soulful music, from the heart of a cold, wintry London town.

As always we were under pressure to fit in a lot of amazing music;  it turned out that in the first hour we stayed largely on the slower-tempos (hip-hop, 80s synth boogiedown, and we also brought you James Blake's forthcoming - and breathtakingly brilliant - new single).

This week's show also included 3 tracks in salute to the great Harry Whitaker, who sadly died a few days before. We brought you something from his work with Roy Ayres, and two other pieces in the second hour that are amongst our favourites from a man who was a legendary arranger and keyboard player.

Hour two featured an extended 'dancefloor' selection (with a darker edge than we've given you for a few weeks), as kicked off by a Gaslamp Killer track; but in contrast, the hour was bookened by warmer, more organic, sublime music, including the two aforementioned tributes to Harry Whitaker (RIP).

Enjoy!
